Task Models in Interactive Software Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
Task models are logical descriptions of the activities to be performed in reaching user's goals. They have shown to be useful for designing, analysing and evaluating interactive software applications. This chapter introduces the main concepts underlying task models and discusses how they can be represented and, then, used in the various phases of the life cycle. 1. Introduction Interest in design and development of interactive software applications has increased considerably over recent years. The underlying reason for this interest is the need to allow the greatest number of people access to software applications for the largest number of purposes and in the widest number of contexts. However, making systems easier to use implies taking into account many factors in the design of an interactive application, such as tasks to support, context of use, user preferences, media and interaction techniques available, and so on. It is thus important to have structured methods for allowing designers to manage such a complexity.

The Impact of the Objective Complexity and Product of Work Task on Interactive Information Searching Behavior
Background and Aim: this study aimed to explore the impact of objective complexity and Product of work task on user's interactive information searching behavior. Method: The research population consisted of MSc students of Ferdowsi university of Mashhad enrolled in 2012-13 academic year. In 3 stages of sampling (random stratified, quota, and voluntary sampling), 30 cases were selected. Each of ...
متن کاملCTTE: Support for Developing and Analyzing Task Models for Interactive System Design
ÐWhile task modeling and task-based design are entering into current practice in the design of interactive software applications, there is still a lack of tools supporting the development and analysis of task models. Such tools should provide developers with ways to represent tasks, including their attributes and objects and their temporal and semantic relationships, to easily create, analyze, ...
متن کاملValidating interactive system design through the verification of formal task and system models
This paper addresses the problem of the articulation between task modelling and system modelling in the design of interactive software. We aim at providing solutions allowing the software designers to use efficiently task models during the design process, and to check that the software being built actually corresponds to the requirements elicited during the task analysis phase. The proposed app...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation as a tool for evaluating the formal design of interactive system
This paper aims at presenting how performance evaluation of models can be used within the design process of interactive systems. We demonstrate how the use of a formal task model may enhance the design of interactive systems, by providing quantitative results on which designers may base their decisions. We also demonstrate that it is possible to describe both task and system models within the s...
متن کاملTowards a UML for Interactive Systems
Nowadays, UML is the most successful model-based approach to supporting software development. However, during the evolution of UML little attention has been paid to supporting user interface design and development. In the meantime, the user interface has become a crucial part of most software projects, and the use of models to capture requirements and express solutions for its design, a true ne...
